Father's Day

Our family going to church.  Back row, Barbara, Daddy, Mama.  Front row:  Brenda & Harold.

My father worked hard
to pay the bills,
take care of our family,
provide and protect.

A bi-vocational preacher,
he pastored many Baptist churches,
ran a bulldozer on construction jobs,
my father worked hard.

He loved his family,
instilled within us faith,
worked sunrise to sunset
to pay the bills.

On the front porch
during hot, summer evenings,
he told Irish folk tales,
took care of his family.

His eyes were sky blue,
hands gentle with beast and child,
Daddy sacrificed his health
to provide and protect.

I hope my blogger friends have a blessed Father's Day!

Fathers are very important.  Please tell your father or a father figure in your life, how much they mean to you.

Beautiful poem Brenda. Yes fathers are very special. They sacrifice so much to work and feed their families. Hope you and your mother have a nice Father's Day as well.

Oh what a nice tribute to your Daddy.... My Daddy was also a hard-working man ---who took care of his family.. I lost him in 1969---but still miss him. I was his only daughter ---so he spoiled me!!! ha

Hugs,
Betsy

How nice to be able to pen such a great tribute to your dad. I envy your way with words. The photo is just priceless. (I have very few from my childhood.) Have a great day!

I love your poem, Brenda. Fathers are special. Daddy always called me Baby or Sissy. I miss him very much.

Brenda, this is such a wonderfully written poem. I love the way you tie each stanza together; makes for interesting reading.

I may have told you before, but my dad was also a Baptist preacher. He seemed to live to discuss the Bible. But I was never close to him; he wasn't a person who showed affection but he did work to provide for us.

Lovely tribute to your father. I grew up in small Baptist churches with bi-vocational preachers.
