Signs of the season are
slipping into our mountains:
a scarlet leaf rides
the wind and walnuts
pop up on trees.
A thousand sunflowers
nod their amber heads
in the meadow as butterflies
perform a beautiful ballet.
Dragonflies do angular dives
as goldfinches twirl in rhythm,
a sapphire skyline appears
like a backdrop to the stage.
An orchestration of this scene:
happiness is a butterfly
alighting when we rest.

Beautiful....I love all the sunflowers around here. Reasons to put a big smile on any face..
What a perfect word picture you have made of the beautiful Summer-winding-down season! Ours, unfortunately, is still in full blast mode!
I enjoyed your poem, and I can't wait for the season to change - it is so hot here in GA - I LOVE fall! Love your sunflowers too!
Lovely, Fall is coming but first a heat wave again sadly

I love looking out my kitchen window at my bold and golden sunflowers. I planted the seeds in the spring and crossed my fingers that they would take root before the constant rains began in the Blue Ridge Mountains. The sunflowers survived ! And now they are well-loved by birds and butterflies.

Hey Brenda Kay. A beautiful poem and words so true. I saw a few golden rods in bloom this morning on our dirt path, and it reminded me so much of Fall.
Love seeing sunflowers!
