THE MESSENGER

THE MESSENGER

On a cold winter morning,
a crimson cardinal perched
above Pepper’s dogloo, captured
my attention as tears

flowed down my face.
The messenger lifted
songs of, “Cheer, cheer, cheer,”
and brought hope

to my broken heart.
He assured me that
the cycle of life continues.
Then a dozen birds

landed in the apple tree
bowing over Pepper’s lot.
Males and females sang together:
“Keep the faith.”

PEPPER

I am so sorry Pepper passed away. It hurts our hearts so when we lose one of our pets.

Hello Brenda, I'm so sorry for your loss. Thank you for letting us know. Your poem is so beautiful and so lovingly expresses your feelings. I remember a friend showing me a scripture once when I lost a dear pet. It said "God loves those who take care of the souls of their domestic animals". You loved Pepper and your tender care gave him a long and happy life. People like you, who are willing to give their hearts to the love of their dogs are truly precious, and that love never goes away. With Love, Delisa

What a beautiful verse Brenda. I'm so sorry about the loss of Pepper. Having just lost Bubba, I know the ache your heart is feeling. While I know that I can't ease the pain of his loss, as you know, Pepper is really not that far away because he lives on in your heart. I hope you find comfort in all your memories of him that can never be taken away...Take care, and again, I'm so very sorry...

Oh Brenda, That is sad.. I'm sorry that you lost Pepper.. I remember when I lost my Duchess (who was about 15 when she died)... It was hard for me --and I grieved for a long time... God Bless You..

Great poem--and I love that Cardinal... Life does go on, doesn't it?
Hugs,

Oh, Brenda, I am so sorry. There is just no one who can take the place of a much loved pet. But there will be another to create a new place in your heart. I hope you find him or her soon. Hugs to you and love, Elaine

Oh Brenda, I didn't know Pepper had died!!! I know you will miss him terribly. Time will help and maybe later, another doggie. That's a nice tribute to him.

Dear Brenda Kay,
I know your pain and sorrow as you grieve for Pepper. Those of us who love and lose our dear pets, hurt and shed our tears, and go on with our lives, but we still hear the jingle of a collar, the footsteps on the floor and feel the sadness when we realize your Pepper and my Rocky are gone.
I love the way your have memorialized your sweet dog in your poems.

I am late coming here because my computer has been in the shop all week.

Brenda Kay, This is a beautiful poem. I am sorry to hear you lost Pepper. It is a season of grief for sure. Smoky "Mr. Whiskers" left me Nov. 21. A stone marks his little grave outside my bedroom window. Nugget, my beloved dog that I inherited when Jeff died, left me on Jan 7th. A big rock marks his grave, also seen outside my window. I'm in a mess of grief. I know how you feel losing Pepper.

I join your friends in sympathy. We have lost so many of our animal friends, I'd think I might get inured--but one doesn't, I've found. We generally put trees over our pets, though one horse was buried under a weeping willow that already grew there. I think I most regret the ones with no markers, even though I now am 800 miles from them--all but one, who resides under a crepe myrtle here. I love the poem that reminds you and us to look ahead. I have a magnet on my car saying, "Adopt a pet."

So sorry that you've lost Pepper . . . So thankful God sends messengers in many forms bearing words that fit our situations perfectly.
